Introduction

After its first edition in 2018, Roca One Day Design Challenge repeated in Bulgaria in 2019. Once again, this contest gathered Bulgarian young designers and architects to explore their creativity in its second edition, after last year’s success participation.

The contest took place on November 9th Roca One Day Design Challenge will take place in Sofia, at the Roca Bulgaria Showroom.

The participants had to redesign a bathroom product to improve the wellness experience and follow a healthy lifestyle at home in just one day. All proposals had to improve the health of users, be adaptable to already existing bathroom spaces, and favor easy cleaning and maintenance.

Out of all submitted projects, STEAMby Desislava Petrova and Lilya Petrova was awarded with the first prize of 2,000 BGN. The project consists of a washbasin with a facial steaming device that saves 50% of water used in a normal face washing, furthermore it helps to have more clear and delicate skin and it also sprays essential oils to relieve sinus congestion and unblock a stuffed nose. Aromatherapy de-stresses, energizes and revives both mind and body. According to the jury, this is a project that meets all criteria. It is both original, achievable, it has a unity of function and form, and last but not least it is very well presented and explained.

The second prize of 1,000 BGN was for HAPPY FEET by Krastio Kalachev, a project that stands out for being a foot wash that combines several options. When you put the feet on the devise, a sensor activates a water jet. This way the feet are clean without any bending, perfect for children and for old people. The upper parts of the device are for wellness, its pressure activates water massage and for cleaning, there’s a UV lamp that helps battle the feet fungi.

The project 383 by Rosen Ficherov, has won the third prize of 600 BGN. This project includes a shower capsule where you can control ambient light, temperature and you can display panels with sound and scents to recreate realistic VR experience with bio shapes inspired by nature. The shower panel is made of a very thin net that helps saving water, you can also reuse the water wasted.
