Briefing United Arab Emirates 2019
Public ablution and sanitation areas in the Middle East region
They are highly influenced by religious customs and traditions, in which hygiene and cleanliness are of utmost importance. Usually public bathrooms have an area for ablutions and a space for WCs. As for WCs, some people regard squitting toilets as more hygienic compared to sitting toilets. However, some people regard sitting toilets as "more modern" than squatting toilets. Furthermore, sitting toilets are more convenient for people with disabilities and the elderly. The management and saving of water is one of the Islamic rules. However, Arab bathrooms are not prepared yet for the conscious management of this resource.
