Introduction

On Saturday 15th October, the Roca One Day Design Challenge was held for the fifth year in a row. On this occasion, within a time limit of nine hours, students and young professionals had to design a product for the bathroom space for the ‘Nomad Generation’, young people who move house on a regular basis.

In the most successful edition to date, with more than 550 participants from 72 different towns, the top prize was awarded to Pau Moltó for his project entitled KENCHIKUKA, a modular toilet that adapts to different spaces and which packs up inside itself.

The second award of the night went to the project SAK, a basin made from textile materials that enables the maximum capacity for personalization, created by Rameshwor Pons and Laia Albert. The third prize was awarded to SILINK, by Alberto Martínez, Sumarijit Gill and Roser Villareal, based on a wash basin made from silicon with hydrophobic qualities.

In the extremely intensive event, the jury had to evaluate and rate a great number of top level projects based on their originality, innovative concepts, product sustainability and adaptability to the specific needs set out in the briefing.

Noviembre Estudio

In 2008, they founded Noviembre Estudio and, since then, Susana Sancho and Vicente Porres have transcended the disciplines of design.

Susana’s artistic training in Fine Arts combines with the technique of a product designer of Vicente’s calibre to create a cocktail that they refer to as “smooth and sweet eclecticism”.

Applying this formula to create iconic spaces and products, such as the H2O bottle and the S1 cabin for ThyssenKrupp Elevators. Their recognition has led to awards such as the Elle Décor’s Young Designer Talent Spain 2013, Good Design Chicago’s Athaneum Museum 2009, the National Craftsmanship Award 2009 and the silver ADI-Fad Delta Award 2013 among others.

Iván Pajares

"Whenever he looks back, he recalls that he was always drawing and, although his efforts were often not great, he remembers that his father encouraged him to improve.

It was this passion for drawing and creating that led him to choose a degree that would enable him to explore this facet and work doing something that he loved. In 2010, he embarked on an adventure at Elisava. Everything involved discovery and learning, design and people, together with emotions and technique. In 2013, he spent afternoons at university and mornings gaining practical experience with a lecturer and friend, Adrià Guiu. This is where he had his first contact with the world of professional industrial design.

In 2014, he left for Switzerland to learn from and enjoy the experience at Swatch on an internship as a watch designer. After this time, he decided to return to Barcelona in 2015, in order to start a phase as an R&D Engineer at Idneom, developing engineering and design projects for the leading automotive brands.

Nowadays, he combines his engineering side with his role as a designer and always strives to find time to understand what is involved in design and people”.
