Introduction

Roca One Day Design Challenge celebrated its 6th Edition in the United Arab Emirates. It was a privilege to celebrate this year edition at the Iconic Etihad Museum in Dubai. The students and young professionals were challenged to redesign the shower column. The goal was to create original solutions and innovative concepts related to the design topic in just one day.

The first prize was awarded to project LINIA designed by Noor Al Kattan, she is a junior graphic designer at Chalhoub and graduated from IUST university in Damascus, Syria. Jury members awarded LINIA for having a unique design combined with the most crucial elements needed in a shower experience. Jury members also highlighted its design with functionality and high aesthetics, end quote “it is the future of showers.”

Project MODRIS won the second prize award. It was designed by Architects Sarfaraz Mohammed Ashraf and Safad Nadathalakkal Ebrahim. Sarafaraz has a bachelor’s degree in Architecture graduated year 2019 from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, India and Safad has a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Calicut, India. Sarfaraz and Safad are currently working for Shape Architecture Practice + Research in Sharjah UAE. Modris was selected because of its sleek design finish and industrial feel. Jury members highlighted that the design has commercial viability with modern contemporary approach. A modular component was added allowing lot of storage for daily use.

The third was awarded to the project THE TREE SHOWER designed by Baidaa Elfrieh & Ameer Hajjat. Baidaa is an Architect currently working as project coordinator and Ameer is also an Architect working in a consultancy company in Dubai. Jury members highlighted that the design fulfilled the brief properly. The storage was integrated proportionally, it is easy to install without taking more space considering the design and adjustable shower.

She creates spaces with timeless style that both look and feel good to the user Her work is inspired by a passion for travel and exploring different cultures She has been to over 70 countries, often seeking places off the beaten track She also has a passion for art and owns an extensive art collection.

Luc, (MBA) Master’s Degree Field of Study Business Administration and Management, Maastricht University, The Netherlands. Born in 1968 with Dutch Nationality, married with 2 children, Country Manager for the Middle East Region, Roca Group representation office in Dubai, UAE.

He was the Export Sales Director at Laufen Bathrooms AG from June 2015-2020 in Laufen, Switzerland.

Former Vice President for Export, Sanitec (Keramag, Twyford, Sphinx, Pozzi Ginori) in Düsseldorf, Germany. From Sep 2004 – Dec 2007 he was the Supply Chain Director Koninklijke Sphinx BV, Maastricht, The Netherlands.
